It's an arbitrary color progression set up by their style to denote skill level for students so that an instructor in their style visiting from a different school can see at a glance what techniques they can safely demonstrate on a student.

Every school uses them differently.

We use them to show the curriculum that a student has passed off for their belt rank. These are color coded. One of the colors represents attendance rather than curriculum.

Once a student has all of the colors, they know they are eligible to test at our next scheduled testing.
