11/28/2018 -- Back to class!
TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Basics, stretch, forms (Choong Jang), one-steps (low orange belt).
11/29/2018
TKD Testing: 6:30 - 8:00 pm. We had a good crew for testing, and being out of commission for as long as I was allowed to me see how much everyone had really improved. It was very refreshing, and a good testing group.
12/3/2018
Forms: all colored belt forms. _________________ www.haysgym.com

Wrestling: I worked with Kenneth on some wrestling stuff. Worked fundamental stuff, like double leg and single leg takedowns using wrist control. Worked the takedown and the cover to score the points, and then working to the half-Nelson by shoving the head down and running it over. After that, we worked on standups, which he is doing much better with. Trained about 30 minutes.
TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Since its the week after testing and results aren't back yet, we had a forms review class. We hit every colored belt form except Hwa Rang. My right knee hurt really, really bad. Like really bad.

Wrestling: Worked with Kenneth again on fundamental wrestling skills. Takedowns for as long as my knee would take it, then standups and switches. Also worked on stance and defending guys grabbing his head and trying to stuff him. 30 minutes. _________________ www.haysgym.com

Wrestling: working with Kenneth again on some basics. Really hammering the stand-up drill, starting from referee's position, and also starting from being flattened out and building a base. This is really showing up in his matches, too.
TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Basics, stretch, forms (Choong Jang), one-steps, and for sparring, I got to a three-for-all with the two young whipper-snappers. Tiring, for sure. _________________ www.haysgym.com

Wrestling: working more with Kenneth. Working on a takedown where you pop the arms when the other tries to lock up with you. Really focused on changing levels with the arm pop so the takedown doesn't turn into a dive. Its supposed to work well with someone who comes in aggressively, taking advantage of their aggressive nature. Also drilled stand-ups and switches, 5 on each side.
1/2/2019 The New Year! Broke it out teaching classes tonight.
TKD Beginners Class: 5:30 - 6:30 pm. Really hammered on basics tonight, taking time to do some drills focusing on technique in between the floor drills. I think the kids had fun, experiencing some different partner activities and seeing what I was referring to. Hit forms at the end.
TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Basics, forms, one-steps, and sparring. For sparring, I had everyone switch to the opposite stance to start out, and also had them spar a match with one hand behind their back, and then a match from their knees. At the end of class, I worked with them on some self-defense drilling from the ground, using kicking techniques while lying down, and then standing up in base. _________________ www.haysgym.com

Looking forward to my first class back after an unexpected month off (recovering from a car accident).
I also have an individual lesson tonight so I plan on using that to recall material that somehow slipped the cracks in my month off. I want to review Plum Tree blocking system and defensive punch techniques 22-30. If I can get to Circle of the Tiger and Hansuki (forms), even better
will post an update after class _________________ Shaolin Kempo, 1st Dan (earned 3 July 2018 in China)

Well, that was a most awful way to come back to classes... I did fine up until we were holding kick shields for partners to strike with. One strike rocked my world and I was seeing stars from the pain in my shoulder. No contact work for me for a few more weeks, methinks.
I didn't forget near as much as I thought. Minor things to correct in Hansuki and Circle, and need to relearn defensive punch 27 and 30. Remembered all of my Plum Tree blocking system, just got two sections out of order.
I get to start a new form next week- Swift Tiger will likely be my choice _________________ Shaolin Kempo, 1st Dan (earned 3 July 2018 in China)

Its good to see you back to class, and on the Forums, twistkick kid. Sorry to hear about your car accident, and glad that you've recovered. Its amazing what you tend to remember, isn't it? All those reps really pay off at times like that.
Make sure to listen to your body, that way you don't go backwards when recovering! _________________ www.haysgym.com

I taught my first bunch of classes in the new year tonight. Stripe testing in individual lessons. Group lessons focused on the traits of the tiger, one of the 5 animals that Shaolin Kempo draws roots from. Teaching kids to press forward mentally as well as physically within the art. Forms reviewed were the ones that had primary traits of a tiger's movement, and the classes were tougher than normal to make the kids feel a pressure to give up, but not so tough they'd actually quit and go home mid class. _________________ Shaolin Kempo, 1st Dan (earned 3 July 2018 in China)

Finally, after being sick for several weeks, I made it back to class.
TKD Class: 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Basics, stretch, forms (Po Eun), One-steps (blue belt), and sparring (three matches). Knees didn't like it, but that's ok. I took it easy where I needed too, and the next day wasn't too bad. _________________ www.haysgym.com
