Has anyone heard of these new rules to be taking over next year so that karate can be an olympic sport?? My sensei was explaining to our club that rather than using wazaris and ippons , the new rules are going to be ippon, nion and sanbon...ippon being the old wazari, nion being the old ippon and sanbon being scored for a combination of techniques. Also its a fight for up to 20points or 2minutes. What does everyone think to this because nearly everyone i have spoken to about this all have different views on it. Personally I think it will be interesting but i cant make up my mind whether i like the idea or not.

I also heard about these new rules, and they have been made so that there is a greater chance of karate becomingan olympic sport.
Personally, I dont like them FROM A REFEREES POINT OF VIEW. I dont spar much, so I cant really say it from a sparers POV.
The way I see it - if they want karate as an olympic sport, let them accept it as it is. Why do we all have to change the rules to be more user-friendly, and like the kickboxers?

I like to spar and I spar often, I am also wishing to become a referree later on in my martial arts life.
I thinik that these new rules will help Karate on its quest for olympic hearsay.
I love the sound of these new rules, I hope that in one of the upcoming competitions hosted have thesze rules.

The reason for the new rules is to make the sport spectator friendly. It can only be that way if it is timed for spectators, not referees. If you want to download the new copy, go to http://www.wkf.net and download them. Currently, Karate BC Tournaments and all their clubs are working with them.

Kickboxing because of its popularity will probably be in there soon enough. Look how long Karate had to wait, and still does have to wait.
