Why did Gen. Choi leave the S. Korea

Was the WTF formed as the nemisis of the ITF (and if so why)

1. From what I have learned, General Choi began to alienate the other Kwan Jangs when he assumed the position as KTA head and ran it like his own personal organization. However, the event that led to his leaving Korea was the Tae Kwon Do demo team he led to North Korea, the communist archenemy of South Korea. Having received no governmental permission to do this, this was considered an act of treason against South Korea, and he was told to leave. Even today, some people in South Korea consider Gen. Choi a traitor. For years after his dismissal, Choi was famous for organizing TKD in communist countries.

2. The WTF was organized as a natural response to Choi's leaving. Anytime there is a power or organizational vacuum, something will be created to fill it.

I have noticed there isn't much talk about the actual politics at hand. Sadly the majority of responses here are talking about how they care not for the politics of the art being discussed. So if it is ok with everyone can we try getting back on subject and try to learn here, thank you MichiganTKD

also thanks for starting this thread, I feel that it can be very beneficial if we all take the time to listen and learn. We may then be able to apply it to our day to day lives. Thank you again.

I don't remember the exact year, I know it was sometime in the 60's. It was during that time that Choi was leading demo teams to various nations to promote TKD. I know I read what year it was, I just don't remember. However, if I find the year I will pass it along.
I know he also led a demo team to N. Korea in 1981. Interestingly, I understand Charles Sereff of the USTF was on this team. I mention this because Sereff's organization recently severed ties with the ITF due to the ITF's N. Korean ties.

Dear Sir,

I would love to learn the year (or even more specific) and the source from which this info was obtained!
Also, in regards to the USTF...you may wish to look deeper into things...from my understanding it was not the fact that the ITF had ties to DPRK. I believe this due to the great length of time between the NK ties and the seperation of the USTF!

I think I was mistaken as far as Gen. Choi going to N. Korea in the 60's. His leaving S. Korea I think was more due to the way he tried to run the KTA. But I've been wrong before
