Do you think that fighters should do the Ram Muay before a fight as the Thais do?

I tihnk it should be up to the fighter. Some people may look at it as a religious dance and may not want to because of that. The Ram Muay should be taught so that a person can make that choice themselves and know the history and traditions of Muay Thai.

i think the ram muay should be done by each fighter before a fight because the fighters should pay respect to the thai gods (even if they are not thai anyway) and the sport of muay thai as well as their opponents. its like having to bow before a karate tournament or agreeing to the rules and touching gloves in a kickboxing or boxing bout
its just respect undefined

I personally think it should be up to the individual but it is a good phsyc-up before a fight(thats a personal thing).

Ram Muay and Wai Kru are prayers and ritualistic dances performed by Thai fighters before each fight. If you've seen "Kickboxer" the movie, it is the dance that Tong Po does before his fights. The Ram Muay and Wai Kru are the only accurate reference to Muay Thai in the movie, BTW, none of the techniques used in fighting of that movie are Muay Thai.

On the subject of the kickboxer movie with Van Damme, alot of Thai's were very unhappy and annoyed at their sport being portrayed as it was in the movie and the way that Dennis Alexio was bumped out the back of the stadium really * off a lot of officials, from what I was told the producers never told the officals or Stadium directors what they were planning and did it in an underhanded way. They weren't happy about being portrayed as a negative and brutal sport.

Well, it was a terrible movie. I have no idea what the point of the movie was. If they wanted to shed light to the USA of the beauty of Muay Thai, why didn't they actually do Muay Thai in it? It's truly sad that the movie just really turned out to be another "Americans can kick * in any country" type of movie. What really annoys me is that alot of people actually think what Van Dammit does in "Kickboxer" is what we do.

What style does Van Damme do anyway? Karate? Kickboxing? Or is he a glorified hollywood actor with a brown belt in two different styles?
