Footwork is extremely important and especially in sparring.
I can't give you some advice since I have yet to perfect my footwork but good luck. |

skipping rope is good for building up calve strength and a warm up, but it does not build good foot work. Training in footwork is the best way to get better at footwork. You should always be working your footwork. Try a couple rounds of "shadow boxing" your footwork, move back and forth, side to side and turns, try to imagine getting the angles on an opponent. You can also play "follow the leader" with a partner, your partner moves and you mirror him.
When you are shadow boxing punches, kicks or anything, you should also be working on footwork. If you are doing bag-work, you should be training your footwork. Basically every drill you do should incorporate footwork.

Jump this will build calf strength. you can also walk around your house on using martial arts movements to develop superior movement skills.

I do wonder quite a bit about how to improve my agility and ability to move. I have been working drills back and forth across the room cross stepping in and out of kosa dachi into kiba dachi. Some times I and in a side kick coming out of the kosa dachi.
I am still working on the most basic's of barely being able to jump. I do not have the physical ability to run but I can skip.
Does anyone think just skipping across the room would be helpful in this area? You know I have heard Micheal J Fox say the same thing but as a result of his parkinson's. |
