Yes, we discuss "bully/harassment issues" in class all of the time.

Mental action is better than physical retort.

I think he should start dating her. She obviously has a thing for him.

Who wants a girl who acts like a five year old boy when he has a crush on a five year old girl? She needs to grow up. Maybe he should try to befriend her.

Interesting, and familiar. Exploitation of social norms. Women striking men, elderly abusing mature folk, kids attacking adults... these are actually quite common occurances, pitting the victim in a catch-22.

Thanks for bringing attention to an angle of yet other issues practitioners must contend with and which once again reminds us that the martial arts is not merely about knowing how to strike, but when not to.

Yea, he shouldn't hit that girl. He should shake the hell out of her.

wow, that really was a very gripping article. thankyou so much. i also read an article about shivalry being dead on another forum, and this is one of the reasons why. as white warlock said, its very easy to fall into a catch 22 situation. if L had resorted to the only thing he could at the time, violence, he would be seen as in the wrong, and that really does (although the last thing i am is a violent man!) get mmy blood boiling - what seems like the hopeless injustice of a situation.

however it is instances like this that show that if you do manage to keep your head and not "lose it", then in the long run you will be the one to benefit: people will see what the other person did and how YOU handled it, and thus you will be admired for your course of action.

so my deepest congratulations to L and his mother (especially L) for handling such a delicate situation so well. i have been in similar situations before, so i know what its like (although L is almost certainly a much better fighter than me, and i would have probably lost anyway, lol!)

i think this extract of "If" seems appropriate....

"If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you
...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"

aaah, what the hell, i'll give you the whole thing

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you.
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make your dreams your master
If you can think - and not make your thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools.
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
