Does anyone have any knowledge about the benefits of wooden weapons made out of white wax wood? I was considering getting a white waxwood bo and was wondering if anyone had ever worked with a wooden weapon out of this material.

Better Late than Never!! I use a waxwood bo and the difference I have found is that it is much more flexible than wood, or even rattan. I also find that it is thinner in diameter and tapers down on one end. They are not necessarily nice looking, unless you buy the ones that are cut and shaped to specific lenghts, but with a little work and some burn patterns and stain, you can have an outstanding looking bo! |

Thanks for the info I really like to use a flexible bo. I love the way it feels in my hands when a technique is executed with good power and snap. I also have small hands. So I really don't use a standard bo now.

Hey Sai, have you ever tried a bamboo Bo?
They look good and have a nice feel I like the natural grip and flex it has. They are also very light. The only down side is that its not as durable as hardwood.

A personal reason for not liking waxwood: they break too easily. Hit it up against anything solid(ie hardwood bo) and kiss it goodbye. |

I like to use bamboo instead of waxwood, but the only drawback with bamboo is that if you do too many slide pokes, your hands will be cut up!!

I think that many who really get into working with a bo have more than one. A bo they like to use for kata and forms. and another one for banging around and making contact.
We tend to sand our bo's and keep them smooth.
