|
|
Was wondering if anyone knew of a good cheap place to buy used Shorin ryu karate training videos. Even though I am San Dan.....I would like to become more well rounded as each DoJo and each sensei have different styles.
I would like to teach karate when I return to California from Japan and want to use my free time to learn as much as possible. I also practice kobudo.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Tim |

So this is going to depend on a number of factors. Ebay is probably your best bet in general terms, I found a Matsumura Seito complete kata dvd for $11. If you're looking for a specific branch of Shorin Ryu that might be a little more difficult. _________________ Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.

Used can be a bit tricky--your best bet is still going to be eBay, as Zaine mentions. New is easier, of course. I was going to suggest the DVDs I made with my late Sensei, but it appears the folks running his dojo, now, have removed them from Amazon so you can't buy them, anymore. If you search YouTube for "Waza Wednesday," you'll find a lot of the freely-available stuff that we made, though. Someone has also put the entirety of Nakazato Shugoro's karate kata video on YouTube, so you can watch the kata being performed, if nothing else. _________________ Kishimoto-Di | 2014-Present | Sensei: Ulf Karlsson

Like Zaine and Wastelander said, bet bet is Ebay. Although as a Sandan you are more than proficient in the curriculum of your club up to Sandan.
Teaching is another beast in itselt, but that also becomes an amazing teacher to the teacher itself.
Like I wouldn't be the Nidan I am today without having taught thousands of students. But even then I also value seeing how open minded other instructors like Wastelander or Sensei8 are with how they teach. |

That’s awesome, Tyler! I agree, eBay is probably the way to go.
I never thought I’d start teaching martial arts as a head instructor. My Sensei had us practice teaching white belts once we earned our brown belts, and I’ll never be able to thank him enough for doing that. Through correcting others and trying to find other details to help them, I myself grew as a karateka tremendously - through teaching!
I wish I could teach Shorin Ryu, but I’m just not there yet. Hopefully some day.
Good luck! _________________ Instagram: @srkdi_pgh

Hello,
Thank you Zaine,Wastelander,Nidan Melbourne,Scohen0300 for the responses.
I was looking for some Shorin ryu training videos just to see a perspective from a different Sensei as i think we all should sometimes even trian in other Dojos to be more well rounded. In Japan the shipping is so expensive so thought a used DVD series set would be best. |
