|
|
Earlier there was a thread here discussing how come young children could be granted black belts. That thread was locked, so I'll start a new one here. Do you guys really think the three guys mentioned in http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=54704 are really the kind of martial arts masters that make up a black belt? Should they be allowed to open their own dojos and start teaching adults how to defend themselves against rapists, muggers and robbers? |

I see TKD more as a sport, if they are giving away black belts like that...
In any case a black belt is very subjective as some MAs don't use black as top honours anyway. Also, you can't really judge the 12-16 year old black belt without really knowing the circumstances. The kid may be the next MA guru, or maybe just a hard working tournament stylist. |

If that story is true, then it's definitely a shame... |

That just shows how weak the school truely is. 3 1/2 is hardly a whitebelt let alone a blackbelt... |

The association is part of The India Taekwondo Federation.
The Federation's own rules for granting dan grades (which I must say are rather short at 26 months to get 1st dan) are here: http://www.geocities.com/tfi_india/anrbgp.htm _________________ The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

What does a black belt mean these days? That you have memorized some patterns and kata? Done 1vs1 at slow motion speed? Ya pretty much I know a bunch of kids who are black belts. I myself am a judo black belt and am 16 but in judo you have to work for it, grapple rohndori ( a form a full force sparring with no striking ) so in judo if you get a black belt you have earned it not memorized it and i'm sure some others are arts and schools are like this but not many that i've seen, a black belt gives them a false sence of security but they can't really fight. But face a black belt use to mean that if you caught him on a bad day in a back alley you were in trouble... |

How can anyone condone what other Dojos do or how they distribute rank? If they feel that a student has reached what it takes for then to become 1st Dan then fine.
If they want to get cocky over the fact that they have a black belt then when they get their head handed to them in a situation then they will see that the rank that they achived does not qualify them to win a fight.
I have seen many fights and matches where a lower rank has won against a higher ranking person.
Rank and belt color do not a fighter make...
