I'm new to this forum so I just got to read the article but I must compliment the sender as it is very informative.
In our school, the kick that is practiced often most in our self defense portion is the groin kick. The second most often practiced kick is the knee kick.
As far as the effectiveness of the groin kick, I think a lot depends on the direction of the kick. A lot of people can handle straight on kicks to the groin but there are not too many (there are exceptions) that can handle a kick straight UP into the testicles.
A person high on drugs may not feel any pain (till he gets sober) no matter what you do, then you must try to disable him (joint breaks) or knock him out. |
Hummm that's just like a woman would experience.A straight on kick to a womans genitials would hurt like hell, but a kick thats a rising kick to woman's vulva would be FAR FAR beyond excructiating. And totally incompasitating or even pass out A female friend had a kick like this and she ended up in the hospitial. She said the pain was worse than child birth and her 2 eye operations And then men say we don't hurt down their? How could men believe such a myth??????? |

Nice article. As a TKD practitioner, many of our kicks go above the belt in both forms and sparring. However, it is very important to practice low-level kicks, and I make sure that my students have no illusions about trying to kick high in a self-defense situation. _________________ Success is where preparation meets opportunity.

At our club we only practice kicks stomach height and below. Shin kicks to the thighs , heel kicks to knees, you get the picture. Whilst training i hate it when people move the pad up higher than thigh level as that is the kick that comes straight into my head. Its my natural kick, a nice shin to someones thigh.
You can chop a tree down but it must always start at the bottom. _________________ Wing chun helps you find the path to ones inner strength. I am getting stronger

Great article! Two things:
1. You guys are making want to put on my groin protector full time.
2. This bodes well for those of us who aren't, and will never be, flexible enough to kick high. I train in Muay Thai and I will never kick someone in the head unless they are 4 feet tall. I work on my flexibility all the time, but I have long maintained that the best real-world kicks are low. That said, there are some mean, effective high kicks in videos on YouTube from several Muay Thai fighters in big matches. They are much more powerful blows than any punch. _________________ Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.
