will your dad allow him to get into weight training or muscle building type workouts (i don't mean BODY builder)? But since you say he's small go with something like aikido or jijutsu (japanese or brazilian should be fine).

I say Judo. You get the tecnique orienation that you would get from Aikido, but you also will get a strong physical development and resisting opponents. Meaning, he could actually use his stuff instead of sitting around and talking about it like most aikidoist.
