Just wondering what are the advantages of doing chin-ups, both for martial arts and in general? |

Reason I'm asking is, thinking of only doing sit-ups, press-ups and chin-ups to work my upper body for a while, don't really have the time to get to the gym.
Should these 3 (and variations of them) be enough to see me through ? |

Thanks for that.
I already work out on pads 3 times a week at training, but I don't have a punching bag at home. Would shadow-boxing using light weights be (2-5lb) be a good idea?
Which weight would be the best to use for this? |

3 times a week is plenty to be punching if you haven't got a bag I would have though...
Chin-ups, press-ups and sit-ups sounds like a good variety of exercises for upper body building...although I don't know how anybody can do chin-ups...they're far too hard
I probably am just as weak as I make out. |

Well, chinups mainly work the Biceps and shoulders, and Pushups mainly work the Triceps chest and upper back, and situps work the abs, so yes that seems good enough
Adding some leg raises however wouldn't go a miss! |

flexers with legs slightly bent and lower abs with legs straight if I recall correctly, which is not a certainty! |

Are leg raises better than lunges or squats?
I can't do chin-ups...tried today, only did one and couldn't get back up a second time. Don't really care about having strong shoulders anyway.
Where are the flexors?
Oh dear, I'm lost. |
