Interesting. Very different from the Hayashi-Ha Shito Ryu katas I'm familiar with. Niseishi reminds me a lot of the Wado Niseishi. _________________ There have always been Starkadders at Cold Comfort Farm! |

Yes Natural, as others have mentioned, Saifa may be done differently by different organizations. You should really be asking your Sensei and not us
The worst thing you could do would be to learn a Saifa kata, perform the heck out of it, and not pass your test because you didn't do it right! |

well I just don't like when people change it only for performance reasons...but if you notice, each school, style, and person does their katas differently. Even in Okinawa, every school performs their katas different one way or the other. Of course, most are usually very slight differences, but when you compare it with the bunkai they seem more diverse.
Now I'm just wondering, how many people here perform the pre-war version of the kata saifa? with the jump in between the front kicks, and with the leg up instead of the cat stance, and also front kicking with the heel instead of the ball of the foot? _________________ Are You Ready? @

one thing i was taught was learn the kata and then add urself to the kata if this makes sense, ie,certain elemts to the kata u can customize to suit u aslong as they are still with the kata, ie, in saifa in the last few moves, u are grabbing sumone by the head and bringing it towards u and snapping there neck, sum like to this fast, sum like to do it slow, i vary my speed in this i bring it in fast and then imagine resistance from the nck as it snapps in my hands so i use my own tention to bring this through, u might not understand what i mean or u might but hey just another lil thing i thought id say _________________ Yours In Budo |
