How do you strenghten your lower back muscles and why is it important to work them in conjunction with your abs ?
What do you mean by "chin up" exercise ? Is it the one where you lie on your stomach and curl yourself upwards in a kinda opposite way to the sit ups ?

The beast way to streangthen your lower back is to deadlift, period. Nothing, I mean nothing comes close to it.

It is important to streangthen them so youe body is "even." You can't move as efficiently as possible if you are lopsidded. You must streangthen your entire body, not just parts. From your calves to your traps.

Chin ups are the best exercises for strenghening your lower back. But I'm not shure why they are good for your stomach but everyone sais that.

A chin up for your lower back is where you have a bar which you hold onto with your hands and hoist your chin up to the bar, I found raising them to the chest strenghens them even better. You have to have you palmes facing away from your body when you grip the bar

The importance of working both the back and ab muscles (core muscles) is explained already in these posts.
