for me a regualar kickboxers stance is the best cuz everything you throw can be delivered with a sufficient amount of power |

"squared" footing - ala Muay Thai and (some styles) kickboxing.
Traditional Japanese exponents will always advocate a "straight line" stance, arguing that you present the least amount of body area to your opponent. This falls down a little when bandai or other hard "round" attacks come into play. Box stance means you have the greatest range of angles at your disposal to attack.

Knees nice and bent, on the toes on your rear, your body can "shield" by turning slightly sideways, as long as your base is solid. Something like that anyway

I agree.. I leave my centerline wide open to invite my opponent inside. Once I let my opponent inside the door, I'll feed him some knees and elbows and let him leave house with a nice round-kick. Aren't I a nice guy?

the back stance is alright, but the front stance is a poor fighting stance so i hope you don't mean that |

I generally wouldnt use the pure karate stances has the are taught in kihon for my constant sparring stance.. they are really ment to be trasitional positions that you take up during sparring.
To answer your questions.. with some practise, and trial and error you will find a stance that works for you, but in general feet about shoulder width apart, knees bent, hands up and chin tucked in works pretty good. |
