what is your belt?
Well I tend to use leather ones to hold up my pants but on the odd occasion when my son was young and rebellious I used it as a "high speed persuasion device"

I actually had a very good grasp on what it meant to achieve the rank. This probably stems from the fact that I tested twice. The first time I was around 10 1/2 and tested for a junior black belt. He was going to make me wait until I was 16, but then the development I went though over that next year was vast in my improvement of the martial mentality as well as my physical ability. So, he allowed me to go through a full adult black belt test. Long and stressful for a kid, but I wanted it. So, the answer yes, I vastly appreciated my black belt when I received it. I actually wrote a short essay on my kind of martial theory, I posted it to the articles forum, but it may be some time before it actually appears. If you want to read it ahead of time, you can e-mail me. _________________ He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.

Off topic a little bit, but I HATE it when people assume that a child cannot truly grasp or appreciate what black belt is and what it means.
Can every child? Of course not.
But I know some twelve year olds or are more mature and responsible than some of the 40 year old black belts I know...
Ok, enough on that rant.
I got my black belt in 1989. I was 15 at the time, so somewhat ironically, I have now been a black belt for longer than I was alive when I initially got it.

I get a kick out of 8-year-old black belts at open WTF tournaments that think they can tell me what to do when I'm standing around in street clothes. I've been a black belt as long as they've been alive. On that note, it really does make you feel old doesn't it? No matter how old you really are. _________________ He who knows others is wise.
