|
|
How does the belt grading system go in your country. In Turkey it goes.
White --6th Kyu
Yellow -- 5th Kyu
Orange -- 4th Kyu
Green -- 3rd Kyu
Blue -- 2nd Kyu
Brown -- 1st Kyu
Black
Black with a Dan Diploma -- Shodan
Black 2 Dan -- Nidan
..............................
In my country a dan is like a teaching license. It is given only to those who have 18 years of age. But you can be blackbelt without a dan. That is like betwwen Kyu and Dan.
Do you have red, purple, pre-black etc. belts in your country?
Do you have two Kyus wearing same colour?
Please let me know. Especially The Japanese system.

white
yellow
gold
orange
green
purple
brown
probationary black (shodan-ho)
black (shodan)
For us when you have your shodan, you act as an assistant to the sensai, no official teaching... Rather annoying, the whole probationary thing. Sometimes it can take a year or two before you are allowed to test for your shodan. My dojo makes you work for it in every way shape and form. _________________ Patience is a grand- either you can learn it or I can make you learn it. |

I don´t think it depends on the country, just the style of karate (or other MA). But I´ve heard that in Japan you only get the brown and the black belts.
Anyway, in Shukokai it´s like this:
8 kyo: Yellow belt
7 Kyo: Orange belt
6 Kyo: Green belt
5 kyo: Blue belt
4 kyo: Purple belt
3 kyo: 1st Brown belt
2 kyo: 2nd Brown belt
1 kyo: 3rd Brown belt
And then The black belt with dans up to 6. _________________ Shukokai Karate, Orange belt ( 7. kyu) |

It is definitely style dependent. If it were more standardized the belt system might be more useful. IMHO. _________________ A block is a strike is a lock is a throw. |
