I was just curious I have heard 1st dan referred to as Shodan, 2nd Nidan
but I have also heard the terms Shidoshi and Shihan. Could someone give me a list of the ranks and titles?

From what I gather there are three main titles given to senior blackbelts:

Renshi (4/5 dan)
Kyoshi (6/7/8 dan)
Hanshi/Shihan (9/10 dan)

These are usually given according to the rules of the association / governing body for long service/dedication - the above grades are an example of what I have seen on websites!

There are very few UK Shotokan karateka I know of who use those titles, the main one being Shihan Kanazawa (10th dan).

Do other styles use other titles?

The dan naming system is actually based on Japanese counting. Ni means 2 in Japanese, San (Sandan) is 3...Go (Go-dan) five, and so on. Keep in mind though, the Japanese have two sets of numbers, so the counting in belts is somewhat different than the counting you might do in class while practicing technique.

All of the traditional schools that I know of use the formal titles along with the rank. However, I have never heard the term Shidoshi used except on the movie "Bloodsport". It is a Japanese word I'm certain though. Renketsu is correct with the ranks and titles. There are other titles that go with position more than rank, although the rank is usually higher, such as Soke (original founder of a system).

Yes, TKD uses titles for it's dan ranks although it can vary from school to school. In general:

Cho Go Nim (instructor)=shodan/nidan
Bu Sa Ba Nim (Assistant Senior Instructor=nidan soon to test for sandan
Sa Ba Nim (Senior Instructor)=sandan
Bu Kwan Ja Nim (Assistant Master Instructor)=sandan/yodan
Kwan Ja Nim(Master Instructor)=yodan and up

Just the same:
Shodan (Ichi = 1)
Nidan (Ni = 2)
Sandan
Yondan
Godan........

And all black belts are sensei.

Perhaps at your school, however wearing a black belt doesn't make you a sensei in any other school I've heard of. And IMHO this isn't a good practice, anyway.

In fact in most styles you do not get to be called SENSEI until 2nd dan, nidan.

Having a black belt of any rank does not make you a teacher.
