When I first stared competing I lost constantly. It drove me nuts... I went back and changed things around and trained harder and harded until I finally started winning. Since I was a green belt and all the way through brown belt I won 95% of the tornaments I entered. I thought I was great. (started getting cocky) Then I got promoted to blackbelt and I thought I was still going to win. What a reality check. It took me 2 years to finally start winning on the blackbelt level but I never gave up. I just kept training harder and harder until I was one of the top forms competitors in the nation. It was so much work but the results were totally worth it. So just stick with things, train hard, and keep your standards high.

So when is this tournament? If it's already happened, how did you do? Remember, rules are: If you mention anything about a tournament/test you'll be in, you HAVE to tell us how it goes!

The Tournament was tonight. It was awesome, I won first place!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was an inner school tournament. I only sparred against one opponent for points.

hand techniques 1 point (If ahand technique is/was landed and the opponent was no where close to blocking it, it was scored as 2 pts.)

Kicking techniques 2 points

here's the play by play :

KarateMom= KM
Opponent=S

Lets get ready to Rumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

S lands a backfist to the head, was so nervous I didn't even see it coming.

S-2, KM-0

Fight

KM fakes front kick to the right side, S drops her guard, KM round kick to the ribs.

S-2, KM-2

S lands jab (I really thought I blocked it!)

S-3, KM-2

Fight

KM fakes kick, does a jab(blocked) followed by an hammer fist to the head.

S-3, KM-4 (Scored 2 points for being a controled technique)

Fight

KM, lands jab

S-3, KM-5

I got a 4 foot tall trophy. (I really need to practice more!

Nice job karatemom!!
About that jab your opponent scored on you...even though you thought you blocked it, the judges saw otherwise. The important thing to remember is to not have an attitude with the judges for it, or you could get disqualified. I would assume that you behaved yourself, since you managed to continue on and win the match.

How did you do in forms, if you competed?
I've competed in about 7 tournaments and, most recently, judged one. It was an inner-school tournament as well. Judging is quite difficult, trying to figure out how to score someone and whether or not that score reflects their position with others. You don't want to give the best person a 7.9 when you gave a so-so student an 8.5! Definitely the hardest part of it (especially with the kids) is that someone has to finish last. it's so sad!

Congratulations again!!!

We sparred tonight in class.

because of lack of time it was first to 3 pts.

I won 3-1.

However I did miss a block and got kicked in the breast

It hurt very bad!

I feel really bad as none of the females want to spar me. (They all said this to the instructor infront of me tonight.)

They said since I won 1st place in the tournament they din't want to point spar against me! It kinda hurt my feelings.

oh well, Maybe I'll be able to spar against the lady at my dojo that is a second green belt. (I want to get better and I guess the best way to do that is to practice against upper belts!)

Ow ow ow ow owwwwwwwwwwww......

KarateMom, I seriously suggest you look into the beauty of chest protectors. It makes fighting fair! That way you don't get disabled when you take a shot, and your partner doesn't feel obliged to punch you only in the gut, and not the chest. If someone is kind enough to do this, it seriously limits what they can do. Unfortunately, not everyone is this kind and considerate.

The chest protector I have is from Century, and it's specifically designed for women, with its shape. However, it tends to slide down to your hips. I suggest looking for a chest protector that straps over your shoulders, to help keep it up. A traditional Taekwondo chest is bulky but good. Also kinda funny because it gives a big circular target!

As far as the other students not wanting to spar you...that is very hurtful. However, you've achieved something very difficult: intimidation over your entire class! If none of the females of your rank will spar you, GUESS WHAT! You get to spar harder people! Challenges are good
