Have you looked at any of the local schools yet? You can often learn wether or not a style looks appealling to you by watching a class. Most reputable schools will allow you to watch a class or two, just make arrangements ahead of time.

When I started karate I found a lot of the information on the net useless.

You really should consider checking out a few classes or maybe going to a library or bookshop and checking out some books on karate.

There are a lot of books available that can help you with choosing a school. Most have a list of things to look out for, and things to ask about.
