I was just curious...

Has anyone had any experience with Okinawan or Japanese sensei that have or follow the more Chinese Hong Bao (红包) or "Red Envelope" protocols?

Not necessarily cash, but just the formality of the process?

Thanks.

Sounds interesting. I saw this in the movie "Return of the Dragon" starring Bruce Lee. Other than that, sorry, I've no experience in this matter nor do I know of anyone that has ever followed Chinese Hong Bao or "Red Envelope" protocols.

Both of our Soke and Dai-Soke were born and raised in Okinawa, in that, I've never ever heard them talk about it or practice that amongst themselves. Even if they did, that would've been a very private thing between them both; Okinawans don't display emotions in the public, and their Hombu was quite public.

Havent heard Anything about it. If they did they would probably keep it private. But otherwise i dont think it is common practice across the japanese/okinawan people

In my old organization, when visiting the honbu dojo on Okinawa, it was standard practice for the highest ranking member of the visiting group to pass an envelope of money to the head of the organization. As far as I know, that was to pay membership dues and rank certification fees since the last visit, but it's possible there was more--it was above my pay grade to have more info than that. Everyone else just gave omiyage that were unique or indicative of where they came from.
