I wonder if abanico is really powerful in real fights.
I would like your point of view if you have had the chance to use it in a fight ?

In my opinion Abaniko (The Fan) is vastly over-rated. It has it's uses as a set up strike but it lacks the kind of power I like to generate. In Doce Pares we have a strike that is similar but more powerful - my instructor calls it "Sidewinder" - similar to an abaniko but you pull your hand back towards you to increase the torque of the stike and also facilitate the use of the blade.
