First and foremost i am new to this forum so hello to all.
I have been practicing shobayashi shorin-ryu for about 2 years on and off but haved failed to stay the course to actually learn the stlye and go up in rank until 3 months ago.
My question is that i need a good heavy duty GI that can last me and that isnt that expensive. I have been training diligently and am tired of having to sew my GI every time its sparring night.
Any recommendations i would greatly appreciate.
Thanks Ed[/b] |

If you are looking for cheap, but heavy duty you can look at century or Ki or ASA..
not sure if there are any others... just make sure you are getting the tournament or the heavy duty versions |

Hi Ed, welcome to Karate Forums!
I tend to only wear heavy duty uniforms - Blitz and Tokaido are my particular faves, but Century is pretty good too. _________________ "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My Cologne

hiya Ed. Welcome to KF!
Tokaido makes the best uniforms, but they're a bit pricey. Back in the day they were only $30, but now they're in the $100's. I think it's better to save up money and buy one uniform, then having to keep buying a new uniform everytime it breaks. |

I have used the White Pine tree 14oz from martialartssupermarket.com and they've worked great.
I have one that I used for about 2 years , and it still is in great condition.
I also use Meijin, from dragon tsunami , which is a bit lighter but fits dreamy.
The tokaido are pretty expensive, 140usd(approximatly) for a traditional cut 14oz .
www.tokaidojapan.com, and have a look.
Ronin 16oz/14oz doesn't seem to be too bad either. |

Try the gladiator gi it is made by pro force and is a real bargin compared to some of those other gi's but it matches up quite nicely in quality. I compare it to doing karate in a bathroom, quite sweaty at first but great once you get used to it _________________ Kisshu fushin oni te hotoke kokoro |

Blitz and Giko do a fairly heavy gi for about a fraction of the price of the big names. If not just go for a site's own brand. As long as you get a heavy weight with reinforced stitching it should last for all your stringent requirements. And I would much prefer to have paid £40 for a gi that gets ripped in training than over £100... I don't think I could wear something as expensive as that out of my house without a bodyguard!! _________________ Tokonkai Karate-do Instructor

I recently got a Kamikaze Arawaza Sapphire gi and so far I really like it. It is 12 oz and goes for about 106 US (160 cdn) online.
They call this a middle weight gi. I wanted a better one due to wanting it to be 100% cotton to breath better and to have a better tournament Gi.
I cannot say how well it will last because I have only had it for 1 week. It certainly adds a snap sound when I do kata now. _________________ 43 Years old
