That's a little long in my opinion.

I had a friend who's father was a master in a Vietnamese martial art, and his dad worked him like that too. Now my friend is an adult, and is burned out on training, and wants nothing to do with it.

(edit)
Well, now that I know you're 20, its not uncommon. I wouldn't make anyone under about 17 work that hard.

I enjoy it, not always at the time, but when I see the improvement I really am happy.

I want to get better, one day I hope to be as good and as fit as him but I dont know if I could do as many hours aweek as he does, that could take a long time

In class, the month is separated into "weeks" - where we cover all the basics but keep focused on one thing...There's "sparring" week, weapons week, rolls/breakfalls/ground defense week, forms week, etc. When we have forms week we probably do the form 3-4 times in the class and if it isn't forms week only once or twice, though I do it many times at home on my own.

I have always done more kata work outside of class than in class. Sometimes I work them at a slow pace concentrating on my stances and the precision of my arm/hand movements.

Sometimes I work them hard with the most power I can. I don't last very long when I do that.

Sometimes I take them apart and work on sections at a time.

When praticing alone I will still run the kata twice however i will run it the first time all out checking for errors and stances things like that . The second time i will run it more relaxed not thinking of the kata to much jsut let it flow (zazen i belive it is called ) .
In a formal class I will run them hard all out . At least as long as i can I usally start to feel it around sieuchin .

We generally practice kata in every class. Myself I practice all my kata twice a day every day. I generally reel them off once in the morning and then a second time either during lunch time or when I get home from the office in the evening
