IN your organization do you practice kobudo(weapons)? Or do you just do empty hand stuff. |

In shi-to ryu Kobudo is part of the syllabus. At about rokyu (6th kyu blue belt in our style) we will start teaching the bo . Then form there one would move on to tonfa , nunchaku , sia , adn kama at differnent ranks keeping iin mind that the kama are not taught till shodan level. hope this helps.

I train in Kobudo as a seperate art - hence my signature (Shotokan Karate - Nidan, Matayoshi Okinawan Kobudo - 4th Kyu)
At the moment i train in rokushakubo, nunchaku, sai, tsun-kuwa, kama, and will be soon starting the nunti.
Hee hee...nunti....hee hee......
Sorry, got a bit carried away there

Hi Shaolinprincess I have trained with bo, sai, tonfa and nunchaku - listed in order of preferance. One day I plan on starting kama. But that will have to wait a bit.

Hi there,
In my art of Kempo, we study weapons as well. First we start with the Bo, then move on to the Sai, then Nunchuks. Right now, I'm learning the balisong knife as well as other Nunchuk, and Sai katas. |

We dont have many weapon katas. Dont get taught weapons katas till purple belt and or brown belt. Once we get to that point there are only a couple till black belt....then wow...

ShaolinPrincess
Kobudo and kobudojutsu is just the same as saying karate-do and karate-jutsu - "do" meaning way whilst "jutsu" meaning art (loosely).
Usually, jutsu involves more combat exercises, such as nunchaku combat.
However, in kobudo and kobujutsu there is not much difference - usually its just named one of them by the instructor.
I train in KobuDO, but still do a lot of combat exercises.
Confused? I am
