I've been training in traditional Okinawan weapons for the past 12-13 months. When I first started I just picked up the cheap ($) weapons (bo, tonfa, sai, kama, nunte, oar, etc.). Now that I have had some practice with these and know that I will be sticking with it, I would like to replace the cheap stuff with "quality" made weapons. Do any of you know where I can get some? People who make them? Companies? Web sites?

www.Kamikazeweb.com

I also practice Okinawan kobudo - based on Matayoshi's teaching.

May I ask how you managed to pick up a cheap nunti. I ordered one from kamikazeweb and it said it would take 90days

You seem to have tried a lot of weapons, considering you have only been doing it for 13 months - whats ure fave?

Regards

Actually I don't have a nunte bo, I have to borrow my instructors. I saw the ones in Kamakaze. Pretty expensive. But I don't see anywhere else to buy. Oar too. I may have gotten a little excited with the message. Our style uses all those weapons, I've only got 5 bo forms, 2 sai one tonfa (Matayoshi) and starting on kama.

Not sure I have a favorite right now.

My instructor has an incredible pair of zai. Made overseas by people who actually use them and know how they should be made. The balance is right, the widths are right, they're great. Make my cheap ones feel awkward and clunky. I might be able to get the information for you if those are weapons you want. I'm sure they'd be at least $150... maybe even $200... I don't know what they're going for now.

Yeah, sometimes you have to break the bank and buy a wel made weapon, instead of the basic stuff u can buy in the usual places.

Thanks for bringing that point up - who does actually use zai now? I thought that the weapon was obsolete now.

I doubt they all suit up and take them into battle after work , but I guess people who use them when they train and know the history of them and what makes or breaks them as a weapon will do a much better job. I don't know who makes the cheap ones... do you think they're even martial artists themselves? I don't even know where those come from.

NidanWarrior:

Check out www.okiadventures.com they are makers of traditional okinawan weapons. Haven't actually bought anything from them, but it's worth a look.

Here's another site: www.weaponsconnection.com

They are made for people who want to practice with weapons - I know I wouldn't want to fork out £200 for every pair of zai I purchase (maybe for one pair )

Oh, and I did type out a kata list, but I accidentaly pressed the back button and lost it all . Obviously I can't be bothered typing it out again MWHAHAA
