Hey all, i have only ever studied the Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu system and i was just wondering if they are very different. I've read a lot about Gracie BJJ but i don't have a clue how the Machado system came about.

To me BJJ is BJJ, but apparently there are differences in the styles. Gracie is supposed to be superior or something - and Rickson Gracie is supposed to be the best freestyle fighter in the world.

I don't think i'm at a disadvantage for studying the Machado style, but is there any major differences between the different styles of BJJ?

Angus

I dont really know the difference in the two styles. But you dont have to worry about anything. The machados are one of the best in the world in Brazilian Jujitsu. Many well known martial artists train in machado jujitsu. People like Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal,Kathy long. even Dan Insanto recieved his black belt in BJJ from the Machados. The Gracie style is a great style and the machado style is just as good. So dont sweat it bra.

actually the machados are relatives of the gracies (cousins) i think the reason they don't call their art gracie jiu jitsu is because the name "gracie jiu jitsu" is copywrited and only the imediate family can use it...so i think it's more of a legal issue than a major difference in styles that seperates gracie jiu jitsu and machado jiu jitsu...

HEY GUYS IM MATT AND im going for my blue belt in carlson gracie jiu-jitsu , THE REASON WHY THE MACHADO'S AND CARLSON (helios brother) and everybody , etc.... its all the same, although , some people do some things a little differently which is fine, the gracies seem to focus a little more on self defense and the machado's a little more on sport but neither is better than the other,
AND CONGRATULATIONS ANGUS ON THE BLACK BELT
