Should martial arts be showcased as "acts" in Las Vegas-type venues?

I was debating as to where to post this .... but thoughts on martial arts being showcased in Las Vegas et al. "Sigfried & Roy" -type shows...
Will it benefit the martial arts or reduce it to a mere circus-type entertainment?
This came across my desk at the agency this morning ...

OK so this is Shaolin ... but in Las Vegas??? An appropriate venue I believe would be an events center ... just my opinion. |

I agree with it, if your talented and skilled like the Shaolin then showcase your performs and what better place to do it in then Las Vegas! It will benefit the martial arts in the sense that more people will be aware of the style and have a better understanding or respect for it. Also if you believe it's "circus-type entertainment" then you can watch a K-1 tournament, MMA event, Kickboxing or Muay Thai fight, there are LOADS of them in Las Vegas. _________________ Limits Are Not Accepted. It looks interesting. Can we get a KarateForums.com group discount? _________________ I had to lose my mind to come to my senses. |

I am seeing that show this friday. They are performing at my University.
I think it would be great to see. Even if the modern monks train modern wushu like I hear. This will give me a chance to find out on my own.
I think Martial Arts can put on shows, sure.
But most of the things you would do in a show are most likely over-exagerated moves, and acrobatic moves that have little or no combat value. Just don't forget that. I think these things are fine, because they can help your agility and also things like confidence, as long as you don't forget what is useful. _________________ Visit Shaolin, Chinese Martial Arts
