A friend of mine is training to be a swat officer. He's majoring in Criminal Justice. That idea seems so cool to me. He was telling me briefly about the combat training involved. Is this type of training taught in other places besides for the police. I would like to learn it. Better yet, I know this guy who'se a Navy Seal. That would be awesome to learn how to fight like them. So anyway, again, does anyone know what exactly the styles are taught and who is good at teaching them.
Thanks!!!

I know my ultimate dream is to be a criminal profiler for the FBI - which means many, many, many (you get it) years as a field officer most likely. I think they train in a lot of modern combat systems (krav maga, sambo, BJJ, etc.)

My dream is to work for the FBI being a Special Agent or something to that nature. Tigerstyle18 could you ask your friend what are all the qualifications to joining a SWAT team? What does S.W.A.T. stand for?

Three60roundhouse what specifically does a criminal profiler do?

You need alot more than just a criminal justice degree to be a swat team member.

Training is dependent on the department you work for. The physical requirements are grueling, and there is alot of training time. Not everyone maes it, not everyone is cut out for it.

SWAT stands for Special Weapons And Tactics. My mom was asked to join one once. She declined though because they have to leave home a lot for special training. Im also friends with someone who is on the SWAT team. I would ask him about the styles, but he was in the national guard and has been called into duty. They use a lot of pressure points in their training. I know that for sure. The main one is the side of the leg above the knee. Ive been taught a lot of it. I dont know what the actual names of the styles that it was taken from was. I heard that the Navy Seals were learning stickfighting, I think. I know it was one of the special forces. Im not sure if it was the seals though. Im gonna try to find some info on this for you tomorrow when I can go to the post and find out.

you're right Iron Arafat, way more is needed to be a SWAT officer. However, getting a degree in Criminal Justice is a good step in the right direction.

Hey muaythaidm, I'll ask my friend tomorrow and I'll try and get back to you on that as soon as possible.

SWAT sounds so cool, I'm actually having considerations about changing my major from Finance to Criminal Justice. I probably won't though. A business degree goes a long way.

Anyone intrested in this line of work should focus on getting onto the department first as an officer. This is probably the hard part.

Getting onto a SWAT team or TAC team is based on your performance and qualifications as an officer, you physical abilities, and your ability to work as a team. Until you get on a department you can't make the SWAT.

I would really enjoy being part of a Tactical Assault squad for the Police, that is one of my goals in life.
