Hi all,

I'm new here and shouting from across the pond (UK) So i hope you can all hear me? Anyway got a question for you all and would be interested in your replies...

A friend of mine recommends if in a fight situation to put your chin on your chest (ie tip your head right forward). because if your opponent was to punch or headbut you he'd hit your forehead. And as it's very hard he's very likely to injure himself and not you.

Okay I'M NOT INTERESTED IN PROTECTING THE CHIN ETC. JUST INTERESTED IN HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT BEING STRUCK ON THE FOREHEAD? (don't mean to shout but can't work out how to do bold)

I understand you have several nerves (pressure points) on the top of your forehead which can knock you out. (try gentley slapping yourself with your palm on the the top corner of your head and it makes your eyes go funny)

I'd consider this part of my head vulnerable. What do you think? good or bad advice?

Bretty

Yes, there are several nerves on the head which cause a knock out. Overall, I consider the forehead very vulnerable, I cover my head in general before just about anything else. Sure, the forehead is a very hard and smooth bone which will hurt your opponent, but a well-landed strike there can cause the brain to hit the inside of the skull, causing both a knockout and minor hemorrhaging. So yea, I agree that the forehead is worth protecting more than other places on the body.

I don't understand If you have chin to chest. I assume your fists are to each side of your chin in a guarding position so .... can't you just slide either fist up to protect the head or duck the punch while blocking. Why take a blow to the head ... forehead, temple, nose, whatever??

I presume we are talking street fight here and if so I think if you have left the fight get that far and have not ended quickly then your not doing to good and if at all possible hall a** out of there. Otherwise if you really have to stand your ground keep your hands up so you can block and counter and keep your head up so you can see whats going on.

I'm with Bon until the tucking your head into your shoulder part. Wouldn't you rather not be hit at all?

well I think if you hold up your hands by your eyebrows or a bit higher you wont have to face that problem if you can block and are quick at dodging

i agree you might get hit in the head afterwards your warn out and hold your hands lower but if you would get punched their it would more likey be a hook which you could step in to avoid it or duck or block it or take the hit
