Should a teacher be liable if a student uses his training in a violent aggressive way.

Well a while back when I was just starting kung fu, my teacher had me sign a contract or statement before enrolling, saying that I would respect the art and never misuse it. I don't know just how legally valid this contract would be, but just my input there |

....out of dojo the school cannot be held responsible for how an individual uses their instruction, the student should be well aware of how and when to use their abilities.....ETHICS cannot be learned they must be cultivated.
**edited because I mistyped....(school is not liable for what happens in dojo ... 3-ply contract to sign...lots of small writing ... lots of dotted lines to sign on .... so that lots of lawyers won't need to be called upon!

Nope, thats why all certified schools have you sign a contract first. Its kind of like the Bar Tender being responsible for an auto accident thing.

We also signed a contract, but we have been taught that you are accountable for all your actions, within or without the dojo. What you do, you have to suffer the consequences in the end. Your teacher or guardian or parents should not have to take the fall for something that you have done.

I believe in personal responsibility, but in the US (unfortunately) you can sue for just about any reason regardless of laws that may or not be in place. Instructors have a responsibility to instill a sense of humanity in their students. IMHO |
