We train at the under black level primarily with the frontal attack. We have several defenses against each type of attack (lunge stab, downward stab, side to side slash, etc.). Most involve a grab and lock of some type. Some can be modified into breaking or re-direction of the knife. Others use a block/lock/strike series.
More advanced defenses are taught at higher levels. |

Hi Guys ,
I have joined the forum just today and it is a pity that such a intresting discussion has just petered away .......
To contribute I will like to make following points :
1. As pointed out in earlier posts , evading a dangerous situation is certainly the best way ( e.g. handing over yr wallet etc .) .
2. The things start getting murkier now ....what do you when u are not going to get away something as simple as that :
A) avoid getting into the dangerous situation and location / time without any protection .
B) as pointed out by someone that you may get cut ..Well !!!by all means ..do get cut on yr hand / arm while blocking or parrying the first thrust ...be prepared for it...a cut hand is a lot better than a cut abdomen or neck ....
C) It is important to "sense" a probable threat ...even the best fighter cannot do pity little if they are shabby in locating / sensing a threat .
I think that's enough for starters .......any body comments on that ...Then I will like to post further .
Atul

Ok then
Let's look at a very basic & typical attack with the knife - probably one of the most common. We'll say your attacker has the knife in his right hand and in a reverse grip (like an ice pick). He attacks with a diagonal forehand stab at your chest - what do you do? Be as detailed as you like.

I forgot about this post. So the guy is attacking with one hand(got to have a picture in my head). Alright, step into the attack with an X block(right palm facing him, left hand on top) into a wrist grab with left(the knife is still over your head) as you step to the side, away form him with a upward elbow thrust. At the same time, bring your left hand down with the attacker hand breaking the elbow. Move behind for an arm lock with right hand pushed against other shoulder. |
