We get told to always use the kickboxing stance. I'm certainly not an authority on it though....

Good luck in your forthcoming tournaments.

Maybe we could help a bit better if you let us know what kind of tournament it is, the rules.

Hmmm, maybe you should just ignore my last post, I didn't realise you were doing a mixture of kickboxing, karate and...umm, what else?

I've never come across such a class so I have no idea as to what stance would be best for you...I suppose it depends on which style your class is leaned towards.

it's a freestyle (basically u can use any moves as long as they're recognised in martial arts) comp. basic rules-no uppercuts etc, clean head shots, sweeping allowed, light semi-contact. it's mainly aimed at kickboxing.

No uppercuts?! WTF is that? As long as they're recognised by what martial art? I'll tell ya what, if you do something really effective, you'll probably be disqualified. Light semi-contact. You may as well just use a jab and front kick only. You are going for speed and tag in this type of competition. Don't do any power techniques, cuz if you hit too hard, you'll be DQ'd.

It is very good in a competition fight to be first off the mark. This intimidates your opponent and could get you vital leadong points early on.

Watch all the fighters in your division, watch for weaknesses, techniques that a fighter does often or a technique that he favors , see what kind of fighter he is..... is he aggressive, counter fighter etc... so that way if you happen to fight them you'll have something to work off.

Also if youre fighting in a karate tournament using the point system, alot of the fighters will rush u. watch out for this and be prepared for it. They sometimes like to rush you right off the bat and catch you off guard its a good way to intimidate their opponents like what moobrack said.
When you see them rushing quickly side step and throw a ridge hand strike. to the chest, head, whereever. The most important thing is the side step. You wanna make sure youre out of his way when hes rushing and just throw that ridge hand out you ll either hit him or he'll rush right into it.

well i hope I ve been able to help you at all. I would write more but I dont wanna bore anyone. Peace!!!!!!!!!!

hmmmmmm----

Use what you know but dont make it too obvious...
Thats what I do.
I use my TKD kicks and land in Kung Fu Stances and quickly bounce back doing a High Muay Thai Side Kick and back to a Cat Stance

Good Luck bud!!!
