c'mon, you must understand tht a lot of the posters here are teens who want to say in some round about way that their art is the best and that they can whip your butt even though they've only learnt from books/websites/videos.

its more than just this. i think an completely unexpierenced person can learn the basics (the first belt or whatever) in a few months with just one lesson of training. so the first belt apparently is not much and perhaps close to nothing or whatever, but i dont think it is better to load them with the full stuff right from the beginning, like telling them its a MUST to train 3+ times a week, let them spar blackbelts or go outside with them. beginners have to be led to martial arts and not yet completely involved to them.

(fixed a grammatical error)

and then there's the point that there is a world of differnce is learning something and being good at it.

like i've said before, in the majority of fights, a wing chun guy will only ever use pak sau, tan sau and chung chui, maybe gan sau (proper one from bil gee) or kwan sau.

that's just five moves (four and a half as the punch is a given).

if your sole intention is to learn to defend yourself and hit back then you can skip the class and just go practice these.

in fact, there is a form of wing chun that does teach loose techniques like this.
