Can you remember that feeling you had when you went from Primary school to high school and you were the junior again? I decided to join a local Jiu Jitsu class tomorrow for the first time and I have that feeling again but worse.... I teach Shotokan karate and hope they don't interfere with each other.
Has anyone else had any experience in this ? _________________ Kevin Wilson

I know what if feels like. To me, it was a great feeling, going into something I really had no experience with. No one expected me to teach them anything, no one was looking to me for the answers, and it gave the opportunity to truly be a beginner, a student, once again.
Go enjoy this experience. It will be a blast. _________________ www.haysgym.com

I'll second bushido man here, it's a great experience. For the same reasons he cited. Plus, it's a chance to look at things thru a completely different lens.
The two arts you are talking about are different enough that you shouldn't have any issues with them stepping on each other. Are you talking Japanese jiu jitsu or BJJ? Either way, you should be in pretty different territory.
Good luck and keep us posted. |

I second Brian and Alex. I was a JBB when I started to learn TKD. I truly enjoyed sitting in the last row as opposed to the front row. I relished the anonymity because only the GM and his senior BB's knew of my JBB in Shindokan.
It gave me an opportunity to learn/absorb TKD without others looking at me with a judgemental scowl. It was a blast, as both Brian and Alex have already pointed it out.
Enjoy and train hard!!

Like all others it's a great experience for those who have an open mind, for some it can be a humbling experience.
Also going from Shotokan to Japanese Jui-jitsu or BJJ will open up your mind for new and exciting bunkai in your kata. _________________ Shawn Vivacqua
