Martial Arts of America
Is anyone familiar with this system of the martial arts? What style is it? or what is it based on?
One of these opened up close to us and I was curious as to some background info on them if anybody knows about it.
I went in this past weekend (12-13-03) to observe for a few minutes and they were teaching the smaller kids at the time so I didnt get to see much about their system. _________________ Red belt - Hon-Shin-Do |

I did a quick search and found this one in Wisconsin. The site is
http://www.maawisconsin.com
To give you a flavor, here is a quote that is at the school ( I saw this) and on this site:
"At Martial Arts America, we are a Black Belt Academy...what that means is it is our focus to help all of our students become Black Belt leaders not just here in the academy, but at home, at school, and in their career."
Let me know if anyone can find out anything else. _________________ Red belt - Hon-Shin-Do |

Looks like something the master put togeather himself.
You'll have to go and ask for the "roots" of the system from them.
At first glance, it would appear to have been developed from at least one style of karate, but I can't be sure from what's there. _________________ Kuk Sool Won - 4th dan

Interesting...but I see no evidence of what exactly it is that they train in. Check it out...the premise sounds nice. _________________ Wolverine

Here's an email address for them...give them a jingle and ask what system they are doing.
maaosh@vbe.com
I just found this, and it's tossing up a whole lot of red flags for me. their class schedule:
FLYING DRAGONS - 30 minute class for children 4-6 year old. (This class is part of the Basic Program).
BASIC PROGRAM - 30 minute class for white, gold, orange, and green belts. (In this class we learn basic martial arts skills).
MASTER CLUB (MC) - 50 minute class for white – black belts. (In this class we learn the basics as well as advanced “Black Belt” martial arts skills).
LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (LP) - 50 minute class for white – black belts. (In this class we learn martial arts skills as well as leadership skills).
30 minute class? 50 minute class??? No way!!! IMHO, you can't learn anything ...or next to anything..in that short amount of time. Heck, it looks like UNDER 3 hours of training per WEEK. I haven't found a cost yet (no doubt using contracts), but for that much practice time with a sensei, you'd better not be paying more than $20-25/month! Careful. |

Sounds like a cookie-cutter karate/taekwondo/whatever dojo. |

I was thinking more along the lines of a possible belt bactory. I have trouble seeing how with 30-50 minute classes, 3 times/week..you can learn enough to get promoted legitimately.
But then again...that's just me, and I'm a picky bastard! |

ick... looks like a karate america clone. i dunno if y'all have much of 'em, but they're all over WI, and they have about the same thing going on. if that's the case, just ignore the schools existance. if anyone expresses interest, kindly tell them why you think it's a bad idea. check in about open sparring and kick 'em around for a bit, sway the students. it worked wonders against the karate america verona location _________________ "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai |
