I'm fairly certain that this is to do with too much running...I've got pains in my shins, no pain in the knees or ankles, just the shins.

I've been reading about something called shinsplints...

Just wondering if you have any tips on how to get rid of it. Or how to prevent it in the first place.

Hi Baby,

I have the same problem - I think it's shin splints. A friend of mine has had them too. I personally think it's because I don't wear shoes in class (we're barefooted) and my shins absorb alot of the impact of training and we do alot of running to warm up. I also do cardio and if I think that the impact of that contributes as well. I still have them too!!!

Awww that's nasty!
We don't do our class barefooted thank god, only to kick...definately not the warm-up...yikes, I don't think my poor shins could handle that.

What you say is probably right...I only get these pains when I've been doing a lot of roadrunning, like the GNR last weekend...and they only last a week or so.

Awww, I really feel for you though, the pain's awful...

Yeah, I had to start wearing those a long time ago cause I'd go home with huge bruises on my shins. I can't imagine what they'd look like now if I didn't wear them! Anyways, I asked my Sensei tonite what I can do to help and she said that running backwards helps build those muscles. I may also wear running shoes when warming up too, see if that helps. Good luck Steffee!!

shinsplints usually come from running or working out on different surfaces. such as usually running on a soft surface then converting to a hard surface.

you might try warm soaks or saltz baths to relieve the tension build up in your shins. and rest is always advisable.

no i'm not a doctor but i did stay at a holiday inn express the other day.

Running Bacwards?.......

* tries that and falls*....well, no luck for this Dragon!...lol

The only time I get blisters is when I am punching boards are breaking them with my foot. ---Axe Kick------

Try massaging your feet before runing, breaking, or kicking.
