Is it just me or do the Martial Arts not get the respect they once did? Anybody got a take or specific story related to this? One thing that p*sses me off is when you tell someone you do Karate and they say "Ya I got a blackbelt" and they point to a leather strap holding up thier pants. One more time and I'm going to kick someone in the throat. We'll see if they have anything to say after that. |

What I hate are people who scoff at the Martial Arts because they beat up some guy in a black belt. So what, no Martial Artist has ever said he could never be beaten. He is human, not god. It is quite funny to see that people who don't do martial arts start to argue about how we say we could beat them, but when they go out and beat other martial artists, they believe they can beat all martial artists.

as often as not the average street fighter could beat a black belt street fighters understand the street martial artists tend not to. there are 2 ways i know to counter this realism training or stand out side the pub at 1in the morn on a saterday night |

See for the majority of you guys....martial arts is equated with who can beat the crap out of the other person. I know that "martial" means "combat"...and hence it is one of the purposes in studying martial arts...but I think the respect should be given for the physical and mental committment and conditioning involved in training in the martial arts. I am not talking about the combative street fighting karate styles... I have more fear than respect for those practitioners.

the disrespect for the arts is usually just outta ignorance or the plain and simple fact that the person cant do it themselves
and deby i dont think all GUYS equate the martial arts with who can beat the crap outta the other person............it is a way of life for me in particular and it is way more then learning out to break bones and kicking and punching |

Even just pretending to be a part of the martial arts and hold any rank, not just a black belt. You know the type... "the Wanna Be's."
[Edited by Admin: In according with the guidelines, this is a link to another martial arts forum thread. Thanks.]
This is another reason why the martial arts are not looked as favorably upon lately.
Take care
