I was wondering if anyone here has any info on the Shito-ryu or Shukokai version of Seisan.

really? you havent done that one yet? strange, in Isshinryu its the first kata we learn. yea i can't wait to get to kusanku, i want to specialize in that one, its so fluid looking. im guessing though the isshinryu version is somewhat diffrent for seisan because everything for us is a verticle fist.

Fireka -
Remember that every kata we do in IsshinRyu is an advanced kata (usually black or brown) in another style. Except Sunsu which is the only pure I-Ryu kata and hybrid of the others.

Seisan is a black belt kata in Shotokan and Kobiyashi (sp?)
Seiunchin is brown belt in GojuRyu
Nahanchi is brown belt in ShorinRyu
Wansu (called Wanshu) is learned as Shodan in ShorinRyu
Chinto is learned as Nidan in ShorinRyu
Sanchin --- dunno where that is learned in GojuRyu but I'm sure its one of the latter katas cause it is supposed to be the essence of karate
Kusanku - is the last kata you learn in ShorinRyu - it is said it takes 10 years to fully master and appreciate.

Seisan - Nidan in Goju
Sanchin - varies, but should be taught from day 1, as it is the "essence" of the Goju style.

I do Shito ryu, and seisan is my competition kata.. any question, just ask..

and by the way... Shotokan doesnt have Seisan, they have Seishan wich is the same as hangetsu.
SO, goju has seisan, and Shoto has Seishan...

I dont think Sanchin should be taught rite away because if it is practiced incorrectly than it is very dangerous. Some Okinawan stlyes banned it because of this.

I don't understand this comment. You are only likely to practice it wrong if you are taught it wrong. Why should you wait until you are an advanced grade to start?
I am aware that performed incorrectly it is harmful, however, it has been modified over the years to make it more "user-friendly" for want of a better term. Atleast it has been with the association I am with.

What kind of "info" do you require?
Would you like to tell us a bit about yourself in the introductions forum. I see you're a full time instructor, but where are you?
