Anyone used Tabata interval training? It's based on doing 8 lots of 20 seconds work with 10 seconds rest between - here's a link...

Very interesting Yoda. If you want I could try this out and let you know the results in a few months?

Try it Jack - it works!

I've been using this protocol in my interval training for a while now - it's good stuff!

We've done this in my weightlifting class as punishment! I wish we did it every day though. Ive asked the coach but he says that no one else wants to. Its really fun to me!

Lol Blade, I get that all the time. I always seem to first to drop to the floor when the Instructor says "20 pushups"

I am familiar with the technique and have used it in the past. For me I find that I need a much longer recovery time when I use training methods of that nature. It is a very effective method.

Tried it with free weight squats today - using 90kg.

I managed 8, 8, 6, 5, 5, 4,4, 4 reps for the 8 sets. Afterwards I felt like throwing up. The rest of my leg workout was simply out of the question!

I have a 60min hill run in the morning- doh!!!!

At my football camp we do something similar called the pyramid. You sprint for 5 rest for 7 sprint for 10 rest for 12 sprint for 20 rest for 22 sprint for 30 rest for 30 sprint for a full minute rest for 45 My coach has this odd system worked out where you never quite get enough restand we are doing this for thirty minutes. You're dead after this. It's hard!!!

Yoda, what sort of use would Tabata-sprinting Intervals have when it comes to taking a 45 minute long, intensive grading? Would Tabata training be an effective method for this?

From a conditioning standpoint I'd say yes - if your grading requires a high degree of short intense activity. Remember though that your aerobic base is the foundation - so don't neglect regular 60-80% HrMax CV work.
