I haven't done much since my initial posts on the forum about finding a good Karate school with dedicated adult classes and such. I initially found a Shotokan school that piqued my interest, but for various reasons, I decided to branch out and try other Karate styles. I am very interested in looking into a Kyokushin school and starting as a complete newbie and seeing where it takes me, and at the same time, I want to study Shorin Ryu but will most likely have to rely on a "at my own pace" type of study, essentially videos/books/dvds.

I'll update as the journey goes; I'm very excited to test the waters.

Very excited for and with you as your search continues. Kyokushin would be a great addition to your MA background...nothing but respect for Kyokushin. Thanks for the update and I look forward to future updates on your search.

Thanks Sensei8

I figure I'm not getting any younger, so I might as well check something off my Karate bucket list.

Kyokushin is a great style. You will learn how to throw and recieve strikes with full force. But be aware it is hard training, way different from traditional karate styles.

Thanks for the encouragement; I've done a lot of research on Kyokushin in the past but never got around to trying it out in person. I'm drawn to Kyokushin because I know I'll get a good workout, as opposed to Shorin Ryu in person. But the good news is that, thanks to @ Zaine, I discovered a Shorin ryu home study program. So I'm glad I can have the best of both worlds while only having to pay one monthly fee (if I stick with Kyokushin) and the other as a video that I can study whenever I want with the instructor guiding me every step of the way.

That sounds like a fun time training! Good luck moving forward, and please keep us posted as to how training in both goes.

I've started training in Kyokushin, and I must say, I'm really enjoying it. I worked up a good sweat and everything was perfect—the teacher, the students, and the material. The kata is insteresting since it incorporates several Goju Ryu techniques. One thing I had to get used to was performing kihon in sanchin stance. Im also studying a Shorin ryu program I recently bought. All of these ought to keep me occupied with karate for a while.

Great to hear that you've decided in Kyokushin and that you're enjoying its training across the board. Train hard and train well. Look forward to any future updates.

Sounds good. Out of curiosity, how did you find the physical demands? Were they about as expected or harder/easier? (i doubt easier since kyokushin is known for it's hard training but you never know!)
